Meet Our High School Youth Ministry Leader- Simon Peterson(He/Him/His)
I am a fourth-year student at MSU majoring in Psychology with a dual minor in Bioethics and Cognitive Science. I hope to pursue a PhD in Sports psychology with the intent of working in the motorsport industry.
Most of my childhood has taken place in Chicago, Illinois where I attended North Park Covenant Church on the north side of the city. A massive portion of my social life throughout high school came out of both middle school and senior high youth group experiences. Lifelong friendships and my relationship with my girlfriend have stemmed from my childhood in the church. In this new role, I hope to provide a space where all feel welcome to come as they are. I hope to help our high school youth grow in their faith and relationships with one another as they help me to do the same.
In my free time I am almost always doing car related things. From driving to watching Formula 1 on the weekends, I love it all. I have also grown up as a competitive swimmer and a musician (as both a singer and trombone player). Please come say hi to me if you see me in church! I am so excited to get to know you all as we begin this journey together.

High School Youth GroupOur youth plan time for fellowship, mission trips, and service opportunities throughout the year. Students can also get involved in the wider church through local and national gatherings, including Living Water Ministries and the ELCA National Youth Gathering. To offset the costs of camps and trips, our youth and families organize congregation and community fund-raising projects and park cars for MSU home football games.
At the conclusion of their senior year all of our high school seniors receive prayer quilts lovingly created by members of our Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry. |

We're Headed to New Orleans! The ELCA National Youth
Gathering is held every three years in which all 8th -12th grade youth in the ELCA are invited to gather together for worship, service, learning, and fellowship. The theme this year is “Created to Be,” exploring how God has created us to be brave, authentic, free, disruptive, and disciples. There are mass gathering worship services each evening, where 20,000 plus youth gather together to worship and learn. Each day has a particular focus: Interactive Learning day, Accompaniment day, and Synod day. Interactive learning day involves spending time in a conference center with many different learning and activity opportunities. Accompaniment day focuses on the local community by engaging in service or learning opportunities with locals. Synod day focuses on making connections with other Lutherans in and around your own local area. We will be taking eight students and four chaperones to the ELCA Youth Gathering this summer in New Orleans, LA. We will be doing some fundraising events at ULC, both to raise money as well as to make connections. |
