Affirmation of Baptism

Affirmation of Baptism (also known as “Confirmation”) is the continuation of a young person's spiritual growth within the church. At baptism, the child is brought into the faith life of the congregation by parents, godparents or sponsors. By attending participating in the Confirmation program, the child learns the basic tenets of the Christian Faith. At Confirmation, the child reaffirms for themselves the promise made by their parents at Baptism.

University Lutheran Church offers a three-year program for 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Students are instructed in biblical knowledge, and Lutheran faith and doctrine. Confirmation students meet every Sunday morning (September – May) from 9:40 to 10:30 in the Education wing.

All students are expected to be regular in attendance at worship, in Confirmation class, and to submit journal notes. In addition, they are required to participate in church and community service through such activities as worship assistance, working in local soup kitchens, serving the annual Easter breakfast, etc., and attend Youth Quakes and summer camps. Students are allowed flexibility in meeting the expectations of the program leading up to their confirmation.
